Before partaking of the Christmas Eve meal, Eastern European families gather around the table where the eldest member holds a large wafer and breaks off a piece to begin a ritual. The remaining wafer is passed on to another member while a prayer for loved ones is said. This continues until everyone at the table has a piece of the wafer. “God grant that we are all together again next year,” they respond to the prayer, and break off a piece of the wafer. This wafer symbolizes the unity of the family and foreshadows the Eucharistic Banquet.
If interested, contact the Parish Office, ASAP (814-674-8983) to reserve a packet of 4 wafers for your Christmas Banquet. Donation is $5/packet. Office Hours are: Mon. & Fri.: 9-3; Tues., Wed., Thurs.:9-12 noon.
